Common Name The Wide Masdevallia [Refers to the broad lateral sepals]
Flower Size 2" [5 cm]
Found in southeastern Costa Rica and southwestern Panama [Venezuela? no = M sancta-fidei] at elevations of 100 to 800 meters as a miniature to small sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte with slender, erect ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, thickly coriaceous, narrowly obovate, obtuse to rounded apically, narrowly cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the fall and winter on a sublax, successively few flowered, racemose, 6" [to 15 cm] long, round in Cross-section inlflorescence arising from near the base of the ramicaul with a bract below the middle and thin floral bracts.
