Common Name The Drawn Out Masdevallia [refers to the elongate petiole, inflorescence and sepaline tails]

Found in Huanuco department of central Peru at elevations around 2500 meters as a miniature sized, cold growing, caespitose epiphyte with slender, erect ramicauls enveloped basally by 1 to 2 tubular sheaths and carrying a single apical, erect, coriaceous, narrowly elliptical, subacute, narrowly cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf and blooms in the late spring on an erect, arising from the base of the ramicaul, with a tubular basal bract, slender, triquetrous, 10.2" [26 cm] long, distantly successively single, few flowered inflorescence with thin, 1" [2,5 cm] apart, shorter than the pedicel floral bracts.
"Distinguished by the long, slender, triquetrous peduncle and a long-pedicellate, remotely few flowered raceme. The dorsal sepal is yellow with a long-attenuated tail. Beyond the short, sepaline tube the lateral sepals are connate into a broad, basal callus. The hypochile of the lip is oblong, about as long as the epichile but wider, and the epichile is channeled and narrrow with revolute, verrucose sides. The apex is acuminate-apiculate." Luer 2000
