Common Name The Tsubota's Masdevallia [Colombian Nurseryman current]

Found in Colombia without collection data as a miniature sized, cool growing epiphyte with erect, stout ramicauls enveloped absally by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical, subacute to obtuse, the base narrowed into the channeled petiolate base leaf that blooms in the fall on an erect, with a bract at the base and arising from low on the ramicaul, triquetrous, 6 to 8" [15 to 20 cm] long, congested, successively or simultaneously 2 flowered inflorescence and has imbricating, tubular, shorter to as long as the pedicel floral bracts.

Similar to M zumbae which has shorter tails. Similar to M carutherianabu[t differs in thes sulcate synsepal with recurved sizs. Also colse to M vargasii that differs with the unusally large lip. The petals are oblong and simply callous on the lower half. The lip is oblong with small, rounded, marginal folds below the middle anda thick, decurved apes."" Luer 2000
