Common Name Weberbauer's Masdevallia [German Botanist and Discoverer of Species]

A miniature sized, caespitose, warm growing epiphytic species of Ecuador and Peru that is found at 800 to 1100 meters in montane rainforests with a short, erect, stout ramicaul concealed by 2 to 3 scarious, tubular sheaths with an erect, single, apical, oblanceolate, attenuate, obtuse, coriaceous, carinate leaf that blooms on an erect, to 7" [to 18 cm] long, triangular in cross-section, inflorescence arising from the base of the ramicaul with a basal bract and tubular, imbricating floral bracts holding the flower well above or at the leaf height with several flowers opening in succession occuring most often in the winter and spring.

Blooms more than once a year from the spikes. This species can be distinguished by the tridentate petals, the low callus keel with a round, basal swelling and the mucronate, denticulate mid-lobe of the labellum.
