Common Name or Meaning Horich's Maxillaria [German Orchid Collector in Costa Rica later 1900's]

Flower Size .32 to .38" [8 to 9 mm]

Found in Costa Rica and Panama in premontane rainforests at elevations of 500 to 1500 meters as a small to medium sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte with an elongate rhizome with 1.2 to 3.6" [3 to 9 cm] betweeen each cylindric to ovoid, compressed pseudobulb enveloped basally by 2 to 3 subulate, non-foliaceous sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, lanceolate, acute, shortly petiolate base leaf that blooms in the summer and fall on a fascile of basal, .6" [1.5 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence arising from a newly matured pseudobulb and carrying color variable flowers
