Common Name Valenzuela's Maxillaria [Cuban Plant Collector 18th cent]

Found from Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil and Venezuela as well as Cuba in wet montane forests at elevations of 100 to 1500 meters as a small sized, hot to cool growing epiphyte or lithophyte often found in full sun without pseudobulbs that has pendant, imbricating, distichous, foliaceous sheaths with narrowly triangular leaves that forms a fan-shape that blooms in the fall, winter and spring on a short 1.2" [3 cm], axillary, single flowered inflorescence arising from the upper leaf sheaths.
