Found in Antioquia department of Colombia in montane forests at elevations around 1770 to 2050 meters as a small sized, cool growing terrestrial with the stem not seen carrying obliquely elliptic, subacuminate, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the late spring on a terminal, erect, pubescent, 16" [40 cm] long overall, peduncle 8.2" [20.5 cm] long, provided with 14, lax sheathing bracts, rachis 7.92" [19.8 cm] long, very densely many flowered inflorescence with ovate-lanceolate, acuminate, much longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying externally pubescent, cream colored flowers.
"This species is related to its Antioquian congener M. marulandae but it differs in having flowers with a thinner labellum hypochile of different widths .076 > .06 > .068 versus .06 to .08" (1.8 > 1.5 > 1.7 vs. 1.5 to 2 mm), a broader .124 versus .1" (3.1 vs. 2.5 mm) epichile, and more slender (not stout) column. Microchilus gentryi from the Colombian Department of Valle is another species similar to M. bravocollinus but it differs in having a much fleshier labellum hypochile of different widths .04 > .032 > .056 versus .072 > .06 > .068" (1 > .8 > 1.8 to 1.4 vs. 1.8 > 1.5 > 1.7 mm)."
