Found in Shaanxi, Jilin, Neimenggu, Hebei, Shanxi, Gansu, Quinhai, Hubei, Sichuan, Yunnan and Xizang China as well as the eastern Himalayas and Nepal in rhodedendron forests in shade at elevations of 1000 to 4100 meters as a small sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with an erect, glabrous stem carrying a few sheaths and blooms in the late spring and early summer on an erect, to 10" [25 cm] long, laxly to subdensely many flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, obtuse floral bracts and carrying non-resupinate flowers
