Found in Assam India, eastern Himalayas, Nepal, western Himalayas, Sikkim, China, Vietnam and Taiwan at elevations of 2900 to 3600 meters in humid, deciduous montane forests as a small to just medium sized, cold growing, reddish brown terrestrial with an erect, glabrous below, glandular-pubescent above stem with 3 to 4, loose, blunt, convolute sheaths and blooms in the summer on an erect, terminal, 2.8 to 7.8" [7 to 19 cm] long, laxly many flowered inflorescence with oblong, acute to acuminate, pubescent, equalling the pedicel & ovary
