Found in Venezuela as a small sized, warm growing epiphyte with a short rhizome giving rise to approximate, oblong, compressed, longitudinally sulcate pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, erect, oblong-ligulate, obtuse, narrowing into the base leaf that blooms in the late fall and early winter on a decurved, shortly pedunculate, 5.2" [13 cm] long, racemose, many flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, acuminate floral bracts

Often cited as a synonym of N bungerothii but differs mostly in the downcurved petals. N bungerothii has petals that are horizontal.
