Found in Boyaca, Santander and Norte de Santander departments of Colombia, Ecuador and Peru in wet, upper montane forests at elevations of 2150 to 3400 meters as a small sized, cold growing epiphyte or terrestrial on steep embankments with ovate, flattened, ancipitous pseudobulbs enveloped basally by 4 to 8, distichous sheaths with the uppermost being leaf-bearing carrying narrowly elliptic, conduplicate and gradually narrowing into the petiole that blooms in the spring and summer on an axillary, arising on a mature pseudobulb, 20" [50 cm] long, 8 to 10 flowered, racemose inflorescence and carrying fragrant, stellate flowers.
