Found from Vera Cruz, Puebla, Oaxaca, Guerrero and Chiapas states of Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela as a medium sized, hot to cool growing, caespitose epiphyte that occurs at altitudes between 50 and 2000 meters in wet montane forests with pale green, smooth, ovoid tapering to a point pseudobulbs enveloped by persistent leaf sheaths carrying to 4, linear, acute, coriaceous, conduplicate at the base leaves that blooms with an apical, erect, 3 1/4" to 18" [8 to 45 cm] long, few-branched, loosely few flowered inflorescence arising on a mature, ovoid tapering to a point pseudobulb subtended by several, acuminate bracts, that is shorter or just longer than the leaves with small, nodding flowers occuring in the late fall and early winter.
