Common Name The Translucent Red Oncidium

Flower Size 1 1/4" [3.1 cm]

Found on the western slopes of Ecuador and the eastern slopes of Peru at elevations of 300 to 2000 meters in semi-dry forest with a rainy season in the fall, as a medium sized, hot to cool growing epiphyte, with ellipsoid, compressed, sulcate with time pseudobulbs subtended by leaf-bearing bracts and a single apical, oblong to narrowly olbong-elliptic, petiolate, obliquely bilobed leaf that blooms in the summer in nature on an erect, axillary, 6 ft. [180 cm] long, basal, paniculate, many flowered inflorescence with triangular, acute floral bracts that are shorter than the ovaries with 3 to 5, 1 1/4", showy, fragrant flowers on each of its many short lateral branches.
