Found as a cold growing terrestrial in western Canada and northeastern USA at elevations of sealevel to 1200 meters with a solitary, ovate to sub-orbicular, basal, fleshy, dull green, indistinctly petiolate base leaf that blooms in the summer on an erect, fluted, naked, to 14" [35 cm] long, to 15 flowered, racemose inflorescence with lanceolate, as long as the ovary floral bracts and carrying simultaneoulsy opening flowers.
