Common Name or Meaning The Leafy Oreorchis - In China Nang Chun Shan Lan

Flower Size .25 to 4" [.6 cm to 1 cm]

Found in the western Himalayas, Assam, eastern Himalayas, Nepal, Myanmar, China and Taiwan in open meadows in dappled shade and on cliff sides at elevations of 2500 to 4500 meters as a medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with corm-like pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, oblong-lanceolate, acuminate, narrowing below into the short petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring and summer on an erect, 12" [30 cm] long, densely to 10 flowered inflorescence enveloped in the lower half by tubular bracts with the flowers all held in the apical portion.

The species epiteth foliosa was applied when the species was in the genera Corralorhiza which has no leaves so then it was moved to Oreorchis. All Oreorchis have leaves, Corallorhiza do not.
