Common Name The Violet Blue Spur Panarica

Flower Size 2.5" [3.75 cm]

Found in Costa Rica, Chiriqui and Colon provinces of Panama and Colombia at elevations of 900 to 1600 meters as a medium sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte with a somewhat elongated rhizomr giving rise to a short, broad, conical pseudobulb carrying 2 to 3, oblong-elliptic, retuse leaves that blooms in the spring on a terminal, arising throug a 4" [10 cm] long, papery spathe, [20 to 30 cm] long, racemose, 20 to 24 flowered inflorescence with much shorter than the pedicel floral bracts and carrying fragrant flowers.

Similar to Panarica prismatocarpa but the lip of P ionocentra is three lobed near the middle, vs 3 lobed in the basal third, the lamina is adorned with 2 fleshy keels reaching the base of the middle lobe and 3 fleshy ridges above extending to near the apex, vs the lamina with 2 fleshy keels uniting centrally and extending to near the apex."
