Common Name The Callus Paphiopedilum - In Thailand - V'ang Kang Kop[Chang-mai] - Maeng phu [Lampang]

Blooming in the spring and early summer, this medium sized, hot to cool growing, terrestrial or lithophytic orchid has narrowly elliptic, oblong-elliptic or obovate, mottled dark green with pale green, acute and equally 2 or 3 lobed apically leaves and a single flowered [occasionally 2], purple, purple pubescenct, erect, to 8 to 14" [20 to 40 cm] long, terminal inflorescence with ovate to elliptic, acute to subacute floral bracts that are 1/3 the length of the ovaries and carrying 1 to rarely 2, showy flowers and is found in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos in primary, closed, evergreen seasonal, broadleafed lowland forests, mixed and coniferous woods and primary highland cloud forests in soils rich in silicates or on granite and sandstone at altitudes of 300 to 2000 meters that grows with even water and fertilizer, plus humid, very shady conditions, year round.
