Found in Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Islands, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Minnesota, Wisconson, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsyvania, New York, New Jersey, Conneticutt, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine in drier mixed, coniferous forests as a small to medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with 2, opposite, basal, elliptic to orbicular, fleshy green leaves that blooms in the later spring and summer on an erect, to 16" [40 cm] long, laxly to densely, to 50 flowered inflorescence carrying fragrant flowers.
