Common Name The Small Flowered Platanthera - In China Xiao Hua She Chun Lan
Flower Size 1/4" [7mm]
Found in Kazakhstan and Kyrgystan Russia, Gansu, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Xinjiang, Xizang and Yunnan provinces of China in forests on slopes at elevations of 2700 to 4100 meters as a miniature to small sized, cold growing terrestrial with a creeping, cylindric, stoloniferous rootstock giving rise to an erect stem with 1 to 2, basal, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, basal, spathulate to elliptic-spathulate, obtuse to acute, contracted below into the clasping base leaf that blooms in the late spring and early summer on an erect, slender, ridged, 1.2 to 3.2" [3.5 to 8 cm] long, subdensely 4 to 12 floweed inflorescence with 1 to 2 foliaceous, lanceolate bracts and lanceolate, nearly as long as the flowers, acuminate floral bracts.
CAUTION !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am not sure of either of these photo determinations. The drawings available to me do not have side lobes to the lip as in the first photo and the lip is narrowly linear and in the second photo it is almost narrowly triangular, Schlecher says it is slightly decurved, narrowly lanceolate-ligulate . And that is asuming that the drawing is correct?????? I have not seen the type.
