Common Name The Nantou County Platanthera [refers to its bing found in Nantou county

Found in Taiwan on open mossy slopes along roadsides at elevations of 2850 meters as a small to just medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with a rhizome giving rise to an erect, cylindrical stem usually with two bract-like leaf-sheaths. and carrying 2, green on the upper surface, pale green underneath, elliptic to oblong, rounded at apex, with a central whitish, grooved vein leaf, the second leaf is smaller, lanceolate and acute that blooms in the summer on an erect, 5.6 to 10" [14 to 25 cm] long inflorescence cylindrical, provided with two sheath-like leaves, rachis 1.6 to 3.2" [4 to 8 cm] long, to 15 flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, acuminate, longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying green flowers.

"In the Platanthera genus in Taiwan, the labella having sidelobes can only be found in three species: P. devolii, P. sonoharae and P. nantousylvatica. This species differs from the other two in having elliptic or oblong leaves, in contrast to linear ones." T.P.Lin 2015
