Found in Japan and the Ryukyus as a small to just medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with plural, narrowly oblong tubers giving rise to 1 to 2, ovate to elliptic, blunt to acute leaves that become linear-lanceolate to bracteose above that blooms in the later summer on a tall, slender, terminal, erect, 8 to 10" [20 to 25 cm] long, loosely 5 to 10 flowered inflorescence carrying fragrant flowers
