Flower Size 3/4" [2 cm]

A medium sized, cold to cool growing terrestrial from Canada, Alaska and the northern US growing deep woods, swamps, in acid soil at altitudes around 450 meters, with 2 subopposite, basal, broadly elliptic to suborbicular, fleshy, shiny leaves spread flat on the ground that blooms in the late spring through summer on a terminal, erect, 1 to 2 1/2' [30 to 75 cm] long, many flowered, racemose inflorescence with lanceolate, shorter than the ovary floral bracts and carrying fragrant flowers.

Notice the much larger leaves, the compact inflorescence and the longer spur which separates this variety from the type.
