Common Name The Long Stemmed Pleurothallis [refers to the length of the ramicaul]
Flower Size .28" [7 mm]
Found in Alajuela and Guanacaste provinces of Costa Rica and Boca del Toros and Cocle provinces of Panama in moist forests at elevations of 800 to 1700 meters as a small sized, warm to cool growing, caespitose epiphyte or terrestrial with erect, slender, laterally compressed above the middle ramicaul, that has a tubular bract below the middle and 2 to 3 basal sheaths, a coriaceous, erect, narrowly ovate, acute leaf with its base cuneate to rounded, shallowly cordate and sessile. It blooms on 1 to 3, arising through a reclining spathe at the base of the leaf, erect, .8 to 1" [2 to 2.5 cm] long, in a fascile of successively single, few flowered inflorescence with much shorter than the pedicel floral bracts.
Distinguished by the successive, long-pedicellate, white flowers sometimes marked with purple. The narrow seplas are usually about .28" [7 mm]. The petals are subulate and cellular-glandular. The ovate lip, minutely fringed on the margins, is thickened with a low, round callus below the middle and a low purple callus above the midddle. Closely related to P harpago but it has smaller flowers and with ciliated petals and a ciliate lip with a prominent, incurved, hook-like lip. Luer 1989
