Common Name Hitchcock's Pleurothallis [American Botanist early 1900's]

Found in Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Ecuador, Peru and Brazil in dense forests at elevations of 300 to 2900 meters as a small sized, hot to cold growing, shortly repent epiphyte with an erect, slender ramicaul partially enveloped below by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths and another below the middle and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical, acute, cuneate below into the twisted petiolate base leaf that blooms in the fall and winter on a single, arising through a spathe from near the apex of the ramicaul, prodiced in a fascile, successively few flowered inflorescence with a thin, tubular, shorter than the pedicel floral bracts.

Distinguished by the the unique bilobed lip above a narrow base with the lobes finger-like and curving downward, with the tips more or less contained indisw a pair of erect, larger, rounded lobes that occupy the middle third of the lip. The anterior lobe is triangular and the column is short and conical with an elongate, protruding anther cap." Luer 1998
