Common Name The Giant Lipped Pleurothallis

Flower Size 1" [2.5 cm]

Found in Azuay, El Oro and Loja provinces of Ecuador on the western slopes of the Andes around 1600 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool growing, caespitose epiphyte with erect ramicauls enveloped by 2 thin, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, narrowly obovate, subacute to obtuse, narrowly cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the summer on a filiform, loose, subflexuous, flexible, to 7.2" [18 cm] long, successively several flowered inflorescence with less than half as long as the pedicel floral bracts.

"Closely allied to P macroblepharis but vegetatively larger than others in the SECTION. The inflorescenec is a long, loose, flexuous raceme of large, spectacular flowers. The spotted sepals are long and narrow with tails slightly shorter than the blades. The petals are long-cilaite below the aristate apex. The lip, by far the larest in the section is obovate and convex with long-cilaite and pubescent margins." Luer 2006
