Common Name Moritz's Pleurothallis [German Orchid Collector 1800's]

Found in Guyana, Venezuela and Ecuador at elevations 1725 to 2700 meters as a small sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte or terrestrial with fasciculate, stout, erect ramicauls enveloped by a loose tubular sheath near the middle and 2 to 3, loose, imbricating others at the base and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical, subacute to obtuse, cuneate below into the subpetiolate to shortly petiolate base leaf that blooms in the winter, spring and early summer on 1 to 4, subcongested, more or less distichous, 3.2 to 6" [8 to 15 cm] long, simultaneously several to many flowered, racemose inflorescence arising through a compressed spathe from an annulus near or below the abscission layer.
