Common Name or Meaning The Straight Spike Pleurothallis [refers to the erect inflorescence]

Found in Colombia and Ecuador at elevations around 1850 meters as a medium to large sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with erect, stout ramicauls enveloped by a close, tubular sheath below the middle and 2 to 3 others at the base and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, ovate, acute, slightly acuminate cordate to rounded below into the sessile base leaf that blooms in the spring on 1 to 5, erect, subsecund, , 6 to 8" [15 to 20 cm] long including the 2" [5 cm] long peduncle, densely many flowered inflorescence arising through a spathe at the base of the leaf and has an inflated, infundibular floral bract.
