Common Name The Peperomia-Like Phloeophila

Flower Size

Found in Belize, Honduras and Cartago province of Costa Rica as a miniature sized, repent epiphyte with a creeping rhizome giving rise to a recumbent, short ramicaul enveloped completely by 2 to 3, tubular sheaths and carrying a single apical, round, apiculate, abruptly narrowing below into the base leaf that has an apical, racemose, longer than the leaf, successively several, single flowered inflorescence with a thin, fugacious, shorter than the ovary floral bract.

"Characterized by the thick, coriaceous leaves with the surface appearing diffusely wrinkled. A single, purple flower, as large as the leaf, is produced near the base of the short petiolae of the leaf. The sepals are spiculate exernally and the laterals are semiconnate. The petals are elliptical and the lip is oblong and spotted." Luer 2006

This species and Phloeophila nummularia< from Brazil are incredibly similar and most likely are the same species and if so then Phloeophila nummularia takes precedence
