Found in Santander Colombia at elevations around 3300 meters as a small to medium sized, cold growing epiphyte with fasciculate, stout, erect ramicauls enveloped by a large, loose tubular sheath near the middle and another 2 to 3 tuublar, imbricating sheaths at the base and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical, subacute to obtuse apically, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the later spring on 1 to 4, simultaneous, more or less secund, 4.8 to 6" [12 to 15 cm] long including the 1.6" [4 cm] long peduncle, densely and simultaneously many flowered inflorescence, arising through a large, conduplicate, foliaceous spathe from an annulus at the base of the leaf below the abscission layer.
