Found in Zulia state of northwestern Venezuela at elevations around 3100 meters as a small sized, cold growing terrestrial or epiphyte? with radiating, white, thick, glabrous roots giving rise to an erect, soft, tough, velvety light green with darker green nerved, sulcate midnerve, dorsally fleshily ribbed, suborbicular, obtuse, narrowing below into the channeled, conduplicate, petiolate base leaves that blooms on an erect, 14" [35 cm] long, terete, gree, finely white-pubescent, several to many flowered inflorescence arising through a few, rather loose, brown, nervose, basally tubular, glabrous sheaths and carries a few, greenish-brown, basally tubular, glabrous bracts with light green, dorsally pubescent floral bracts.

The Orchid in the photo in the department of Cauca near el Vulcan de Purace at elevations of 2900 to 3200 meters as an epiphyte on a very wet old tree. The photo was taken just inside of the national park of Purace 6/07.

CAUTION Although the flowers are an exact match to Garay & Dunsterville's drawing the leaves do not conform at all and as such this determination is suspect.
