Found in Rio de Janiero and Sao Paulo states of Brazil and Argentina as a medium sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial orchid with an erect stem partially enveloped by lanceolate, acute bracts and carrying 5 to 6, basal, broad, oblong-ligulate, acute, long attenuate into the base leaves that blooms in the winter on a terminal, erect, peduncle 16 to 18" [40 to 45 cm] long, provided with 7 to 8, strongly amplexicaul, lower ones foliaceous, upper striate with dark green sheathing bracts, rachis 2 to 8" [5 to 20 cm] long, laxly many flowered inflorescence with narrowly lanceolate, long-acuminate, lightly puberulous, slightly longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying large, greenish pink to yellowish flowers.
Schlechter stated that this species is similar to Sarcoglottis grandiflora
