Common Name The Orange Sauroglossum

Flower Size

Found in Huanuco and Cusco departments of Peru on heath covered slopes at elevations of 2800 to 3150 meters as a small to large sized, cold growing terrestrial with 5 or less, basal, rosulate, oblong to elliptic, more or less acute, gradually narrowing below into a more or less distinct petiolate base leaves usually present at blooming occuring in the spring and summer on an erect, slender to stout, more or less glandular-tomentose above, , to 28" [70 cm] long overall, short to elongate, provided with several, more or less remote, tubular sheathing bracts, rachis 1.2" to 10" [3 to 25 cm] long, several to many flowered inflorescence enveloped by several more or less remote, tubular sheaths and carrying orange to dull brick-red flowers with the sepals externally glandular-pubecent.

In general appearance similar to Sauroglossum longiflorum , in floral details similar to Sauroglossum elatum
