Common Name The Colombian Sertifera

Found in Antioquia and Cauca departments of Colombia, Venezuela and Imbabura province of Ecuador at elevations of 2500 to 3200 meters as a small to medium sized, cold growing terrestrial often in dense clumps with flexuous, pubescnt roots giving rise to an erect to pendent, unbranched, densely leafy stem carrying erect-patent, elliptic to lanceolate, acuminate, plicate, 5 nerved, sessile to the verruculose, imbricating sheaths leaves that blooms in the summer, late fall and early winter on an axillary, peduncle distinctly compressed, ancipitous, short, .8 to 1.2" [2 to 3 cm] long, racemose, successively few, 6 to 12 flowered inflorescence with erect-patent, lanceolate, acute, shorer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying glabrous, subglobose, purple flowers with the petals often pinkish and the lip white apically.
