Common Name The Mantiqueira Sophronitis [A mountain range in Sao Paulo and Minas Gerais]

Flower Size 1 to 2" [2.5 to 5 cm]

Found in southeastern and southern Brazil on moss or lichen covered saplings in creek gulches and on ridge crests at elevations of 1200 to 1890 meters as a small sized, cool growing epiphyte with short to 1" [2.5 cm] long, fat, ellipsoid, fusiform to ovoid to subglobose pseudobulbs and carrying thick, rigid, leathery, narrowly ovate, oblong to oval and curved, reddish tinted on reverse, shortly petiolate base leaves that blooms in the summer on a short, termninal, single flowered inflorescence.
