Common Name The Violet Sophronitella

Flower Size 1" [2.5 cm]

A small creeping, hot to cool growing epiphyte and occasional lithophyte found in the heavily shaded, mountainous humid forests of eastern Brazil at moderate elevations with densely clustered, robust, oblong-fusiform or narrowly ovoid, basally 1 or 2 noded pseudobulbs carrying 1 to 2, apical, fleshy-coriaceous, linear, conduplicate, sharply acute, and minutely apiculate leaves that blooms on an erect, 2" [5 cm] long, shorter than the leaves, 1 or 4 flowered inflorescence that has acute, ovate bracts occuring in the late winter and spring in Brazil and late autumn through mid winter in cultivation.

This species grows best mounted on cork or treefern and kept humid and in bright light with regular waterings.
