Found in Cauca department of Colombia, Pichincha, Carchi Sucumbios, Loja and Zamora-Chinchipe provinces of Ecuador, Cajamarca department of Peru and Cochabamba department of Bolivia at elevations around 1800 to 3400 meters as a small sized, cool to cold growingdensely ascending-caespiotse epiphyte with erect, slender ramicauls enveloped by a close, tubular sheath near the middle and 2 to 3 others at the base and carrying a single, apical, erect , coriaceous, elliptical-oblong, subacute to obtuse, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the late spring, summer and fall on 3 to 10, rarely to 20, arising through a spathe from an annulus below the apex of the ramicaul, erect, congested, distichous, .8 to 3.2" [2 to 8 cm] long without a peduncle, simultaneously several flowered inflorescence with oblique, acute, shorter than the ovary floral bracts and carrying yellow flowers.

"Closely related to S hylophila with longer, fewer racemes and the still smaller S braccata and has narrow leaves and a shallower lip with the cavity ocupyiong a larger portion, leaving the base with less area at the base.
