Found in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru in very wet, montane cloud forests at elevations of 1800 to 3200 meters as a small sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with a stout, ascending-erect ramicauls enveloped by 2 to 3 loose, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, thickly coriaceous, narrowly elliptical, acute to subacute, narrowing below into the ill-defined petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring through fall on 1 to 3, slender, 2" [5 cm] long, loose, successively single, few flowered inflorescence.
