Found in Assam, eastern Himalayas, Bhutan, lower India, Thailand, Malaysia, China, Vietnam and Taiwan in tropical evergreen forests at elevations of 600 to 1400 meters as a medium sized, warm to cool growing, deciduous-leafed terrestrial with ovoid pseudobulbs and a single, plicate, elliptic, acute to acuminate leaf that has a long petiole and blooms on a basal, 2' 6" [75 cm] long, glabrous, bracteate, racemose, 5 to 15 flowered inflorescence carrying a few well spaced, simultaneously opening, fragrant flowers that blooms in the winter.
Many sources add T hookeriana as a synonym of this species but if the determination that I have for T hookeriana is correct then there are differences between the 2 in the calli on the lip.
