Found in Japan and the Ryukyu islands as a small to medium sized, cool growing terrestrial with inclined, narrowly ovoid, erect to slightly arcuate, pseudobulbs carrying a single, green, plicate, oblong-linear to linear-lanceolate, acute to subacuminate, tapering into a petiolate base leaves with white to silver reticulation above and purple beneath and blooms in the spring on a basal, erect to lateral, 8 to 16" [20-40cm] long few flowered inflorescence
