Common Name The Bark Loving Telipogon [The epithet refers to the substrate where this epiphyte grows. Telipogon corticatus is exclusively found in patches of moss over the exfoliating cortex of the tree Oreomunnea mexicana

Flower Size .16 to .2" [4 to 5 mm]

Found in Veracruz state of Mexico at eleavtions of 1550 to 1600 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool growing epiphyte without stems, acaulescent, but with deciduous when flowering, erect, rnsluscent, leaves that blooms in the early winter on a single, simple, 2.4" [6 cm] long, compressed, green, provided with 2 to 3 spaced, small, triangular-ovate, acute-attenuate, green, transluscent bracts, successively single, few flowered inflorescence with very small, triangular, green, transluscent, with a thickened vein floral bracts and carrying resupinate, small flowers.

"Telipogon corticatus is related to T. helleri, however diagnostic floral characters in T. corticatus are reddish-brown flowers, large sepals close to each other in the open flower, two thirds of the length of the lip, petals elliptic, large auricles of column with long hairs and wide apex, the lip separated from the column, base of lip with a sinus, sagittate, anther curved. In Telipogon helleri flowers are purplish, sepals are separated from each other in the open flower, petals are oblong-elliptic, auricles of the column are small, with short hairs, the lip is adnate to the column, trulliform-sagittate and with a rounded apex, anther is slightly curved."
