Found in Costa Rica at elevations around 1825 meters as a small sized, cold growing epiphyte with an erect, terete stem enveloped by imbricate leaf sheaths carrying erect-patent, oblong, apiculate, narrowing below into the narrowly conduplicate base leaves that blooms in the spring on a subterminal, erect, naked, 2.4" [6 cm] long, laxly 4 to 6 flowered inflorescence with ovate, acute floral bracts.

There are 2 types of this species one with spines around the column and the other that is bald.
