Found in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru in upper montane cloud forests at elevations of 2900 to 3500 meters as a miniature sized, cold growing epiphyte with a short stem that basally branches with age carrying disitichous, imbricating basally oblong-obovate, gradually narrows belwo into the conduplicate base leaves that blooms on a 3 winged, triangular in cross section 6" [15 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence occuring in the winter through late spring. This species dies back after blooming and rests until the next growth season starts so do not throw out it may not be dead.
