A large sized, hot to warm growing, monopodial terrestrial in swamp forests, poor grasslands, lower montane forests or on rocks or scambling over small shrubs found in penninsular Thailand, Laos?, Vietnam, Andaman Islands, Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Borneo, Sulawesi, New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and the Philippines at elevations of 30 to 1000 meters with climbing, pale-yellow-green often spotted purple stems carrying alternate, coriaceous, ovate, basally cordate and clasping, olive green leaves that has an axillary, 4 to 10" [10 to 25 cm] long, conspicuously bracteate inflorescence with 2 wide open, successively many flowers produced on a congested rachis occuring in the summer.
