Found from Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Surinam, Venezuela, Brazil, Cuba, Jamaica, Leewards, Puerto Rico,Trinidad and Tobago and the Windwards in wet montane forests at elevations of 700 to 2000 meters as a miniature sized, caespitose, warm to cool growing epiphyte with a very slender, jointed, ramicaul with 4 to 6 nodes, each with a lepanthiform sheath with hairy margins and an apical, single obovate, attenuate, rounded, emarginate, apiculate, subcoriaceous, olive green, gradually narrowing below into the base leaf with 3 red-purple stripes on the underside that blooms in the summer and winter on an apical, 2" [5cm] long, longer than the leaf, simultaneously opening, laxly several flowered, racemose inflorescence with shorter than the pedicel floral bracts.

"More or less caespitose, but the ramicauls usually proliferate one or two more ramicauls so that "stem" may bear a few small, elliptical leaves. Sometimes long chains of ramicauls are formed. The several flowered racemes of yellowish flowers surpass the leaf twice to five times in length. The sepals are carinate and ovate, sometimes slightly acuminate, the apices of the small membraneous petals vary from subacute to rounded and the oblong lip bears a pair of low longitudinal calli near the margins with the midvein thickened between them. The thickened, obtuse apex is cellualr-glandular in varying degrees. The column is abruptly and broadly winged above the middle but sometimes indistinctly so." Luer 1997
