Common Name The Three Barbed Trisetella [refers to the three sepaline tails]

Flower Size .4" to 1.2" [1 to 3 cm]

Found from Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Fr Guiana, Surinam, Brazil, Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador in wet montane forests and piedmont forests on small branches at elevations of 200 to 2000 meters as a variable, mini-miniature sized, hot to cool growing, densly caespitose, epiphytic or lithophytic orchid with a short, slender ramicaul with several tubular, basal sheaths and a single apical, lanceolate, long tapered to the channeled petiole, acute, rigidly coriaceous leaf and blooms in the summer and fall on an erect, arising from low on the ramicaul, witha bract below the middle, 3.6" [9 cm] long, congested, successively single, 3 to 4 flowered inflorescence with as long as to shorter than the pedicel floral bracts.

"The T triglochin complex is recognized by the thick, narrow leaves, a smooth peduncle [occasionally slightly to sparsely scabrous] a synsepal with a mentum below the middle and with the tails of the lateral sepals usually not longer than the blade. The tails vary from slender to thickened to clavate in various populations. The tails usually emerge below the apex of the synsepal but occasionally they emerge from the lateral margin of the apex." Luer 1989

Bright indirect light, constant air circulation, high humidity but not overly wet and good water quality help with keeping this pretty miniature species that quickly obtains specimen size happy. Mounting is a good way to go but every day watering and bi-weekly feeding with half strength fertilizer in sunny weather and less in the darker winter days.
