Found in the Ryukyu Islands, Taiwan, Borneo, the Philippines and the Marianas Islands in full sun near the sea on cliffs or coastal beach forests on branches and tree trunks occuring at elevations of sealevel to 300 meters as a medium sized, hot growing epiphyte with a short stem enveloped completely by imbricate, leaf-bearing sheaths and carrying coriaceous, narrow, recurved, obliquely bidentate apically, strongly keeled underneath leaves that blooms in the spring and later summer on an erect, 18" [45 cm] long, longer than the leaves, several to many [to 25] flowered inflorescence that can be racemose or rarely paniculate with very fragrant, long-lived, waxy flowers.
