"V. appendiculata is distinguished by its large, spatulate, abruptly mucronate leaves, and large flowers with a narrow apical lobe to the lip, that is strongly reflexed and papillose-barbellate. Vanilla marowynensis seems to be conspecific, although the illustration, based on an immature bud is inadequate. This species seems to be common in Amazonia." Soto Arenas & Cribb 2010
