From Jamaica, Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Guyana, Surinam, French Guiana and Brazil as a medium sized, hot to cool growing epiphyte from wet montane forests and found at altitudes of 100 to 1800 meters with an ovoid, sulcate, obtuse-angled pseudobulb carrying 2 elliptic-lanceolate, long attenuate to the elongate petiole, acuminate, coriaceous leaves and blooms in the later fall, winter and early spring on an erect, basal, to 12" [30 cm] long, racemose inflorescence with linear, acuminate floral bracts that are longer than the ovaries with several to many, slightly fragrant flowers that arise on a mature pseudobulb and are held at mid-leaf height .
