Common Name The Black Purple Zootrophion

Flower Size 1/2" [2 cm]

Found in Jamaica, Cuba, Hispanola, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru? and Bolivia? in wet montane forests on trees, logs and banks in hilly woods, elevations of 400 to 1300 meters as a miniature to small sized, from that is a hot to warm growing creeping epiphyte or rarely terrestrial species with erect, short stems enveloped basally by several scarious, inflated sheaths and carrying a single, apical, coriaceous, erect, obovate-elliptic, subobtuse, shortly petiolate leaf. It needs regular waterings year round and likes moderate shade, and it blooms on an apical, shorter than the leaf, single flowered inflorescence occuring from late summer through the winter with non-fragrant single flowers.
