A miniature to small sized, creeping epiphytic or rarely terrestrial species from elevations of 400-1300 meters in Jamaica, Cuba, Hispanola, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru? and Bolivia? in wet montane forests on trees, logs and banks in hilly woods, that is a hot to warm growing epiphyte and rarely a terrestrial, with erect, short stems enveloped basally by several scarious, inflated sheaths and carrying a single, apical, coriaceous, erect, obovate-elliptic, subobtuse, shortly petiolate leaf. It needs regular waterings year round and likes moderate shade, and it blooms on an apical, shorter than the leaf, single flowered inflorescence occuring from late summer through the winter with nonfragrant single flowers.
