SUBGENUS Aenigma Luer 1986 Characterized by the shortly repent, ascending rhizome with more or less fasciculated, short ramicauls witha successively flowered inflorescence arising through an annulus. There are two sections divided over having a long-spiculate or a glabrous ovary.

Characterized by the long-spiculate ovary and the semiconnate lateral sepals and the column shorter than the lip. One species has vestigal petals.
SUBGENUS Aenigma SECTION Vestigipetalae Luer 1986 Characterized by the glabrous ovary, free sepals, vestigal petals and a terete column longer than the simple lip adpressed beneath.
